Settling in the US

Months have passed since we moved to the US and a lot has happened from the time we stepped off that plane December 15th. I am now a US resident, so I can come and go as I please, in and out of the US. I have a paid job which has been a new experience for me. I am now a father!! Wow, it's surreal that I have a son. What the future holds for us as a family has been a thought on my mind.
Becoming a US resident is a long a painful process, no wonder people that are in the US illegally are so leery about becoming legal. By the grace of God we had a Christian lawyer, Mr. Charles Phipps, who helped us through the process, a tremendous blessing. The interview portion of my residency went so smoothe. We drove from Green Bay to Milwaukee to the Homeland Security Office. We then had to sit and wait for the interview, we went in and the interviewer asked some mundane questions which we answered, it was over in seven minutes. Talk about the grace of God over our lives. We have indeed seen God every step of the way since we left Belize.

We found out we were pregnant right before we left Belize, which we felt was just another conformation God was saying it was time to go. We came to the US with a lot of questions of how we would pay for this baby. Which God worked all the details out and we didn’t have to worry about it. Alyssa's pregnancy went smooth without complications. On August 4th at 8:02pm we had a beautiful boy, Elias Samuel Myrie. It was so joyous to behold something so precious. Isn’t God so amazing to create a child and the process He goes through to make it perfect?
Right after I got my permission to work in the US a friends of ours, Aaron and Oriana told us that a company, Neville’s was hiring. So, I filled out an application and the owner called me back a week later and told me to come for an interview. I went in and he asked a bunch of questions about what I use to do and if I was a good worker. I told him I was a missionary and I would do the best I could, he told me to come back the next day for work. Every time I need provision, God just does something and makes stuff happen.
The future is unclear but one thing we know is God has us here for such a time as this. We may not understand what He is doing but I am so glad He does. The main thing I am working on is to finish my G.E.D and move on from there. We are ready for what ever God has. Life is an adventure filled with the unexpected and the expected but most of all with relationships.

New season, new places

Oh boy! What a season! It has been awhile since our last update, a lot has happened since then. Alyssa and I left Belize on December 15th- it was a mix of emotions, excitement for the new season and hard to leave friends and family behind.

Coming to Green Bay, Wisconsin, with priority set to spend time with family for the Christmas season, catching  up on what's been happening. We also had some news to tell...2 weeks before leaving Belize we found that we were pregnant. We'd been trying for a year and never expected it. But the little one is on his/her way. It was time of excitement and also thinking about the future. How will we pay for the baby? What are we going to do for the next season? What seemed to be clear when we left Belize became not so clear.

After 2 weeks in WI, we went to Jamaica for two weeks to spend time with my biological family of whom Alyssa had never met. It was a good time of catching up with them because I had not seen them in five years. Also, spending time in prayer for the next season. We spend a lot of time with my spiritual Mom and Dad (Rev. Bob and Mary Holland) who raised me from 6 years old.

Now we are back in Green Bay! Alyssa working and I'm just waiting to get my residency taken care of so I could go to school and apply for work.

ALSO...I have recorded a CD (U R God) unplugged version. Thanks to my friend, Mervin Budram who encouraged me and recorded the music...its available on the right side of our blog, music download.

Next season look likes...
It will be a season of adjustment. I've never lived in the US before and Alyssa has not lived in the US in 5 years.

  2. I want to go to mechanic school

Dear Family and Friends,
Thanks for your prayers and support over the last season of DTS. It has been a wonderful time of seeing God move and work in our students' lives. It is always a privilege to be a part of what God is doing in young people's lives.  Our DTS went to Mexico City and the Dominican Republic, we developed many relationships and also God used us to help people and share God's love to the lost. God showed us a little bit about ourselves too. It is cool to see what God is doing in the world around us. As I do mission trips, I realize that we are only a small part of the big picture of God's heart in the body of Christ and the world.
Alyssa and I have been praying about the next season for a while, kind of feeling a shift from God since June of this year. We felt that God was about to bring us into a new season. We brought this to our covering and accountability, both from here and the US. After praying during the outreach we feel like God is saying now is the time to transition. This has been one of the hardest decisions we have made. Belize has become our home and we have many friends and family here. Also between Alyssa and me, we have been serving in Belize for some years (Omar 10 years, Alyssa 5 years). That is a long time; we have met many young people over the years of whom we still mentor today. What does that mean? We will be leaving on December 15 for Christmas vacation and when we leave we will not be returning; we are not sure if it is only for a season or for good. We will still visit that is a given but as to full time work here we don't know.  We have started to sell our things here which has been hard because what do you fit in a suitcase?
With that said- the next season awaits.  Alyssa has applied for a job working with the ministry (Rock the World) that she first traveled to   Belize on a mission team. It will be a part time during the year but full time in the summers, which means we would need to raise the rest of the funds through support. I will be going back to school, working towards my GED and some seminary classes.  Alyssa also wants to take classes, no specifics yet, perhaps working towards her Master's degree. We are feeling that we need to equip ourselves for the next season of ministry, whatever that is.
Prayer Points
For a smooth transition (adjusting to culture, different way of life, different roles etc.)
A car (this is our first step to being able to move in the States!)
My Residency for the U.S.A. (which is pricy and can be timely) - pray for the right people, good advice and a fast process

Jumunuco, Dominican Republic

We've spent the last couple days with a great family- part of YWAM Planting for the Harvest in Jarabacoa, DR. The couple, Ambiori and Kim, have giant hearts to reach the people of this mountain community. Jumunuco is the greater community that contains about 20 something smaller communities. There are 2 other families of missionaries living around the mountain.

This morning we spent praying, worshipping and intercession. Calling forth God to be exalted in these places. We traveled by truck (on a very bumpy road) to just 2 of the many high points- we stopped and asked God for specifics on what to pray. The theme of Deut. 28 was relevant- reading the many blessings of those that follow God, being reminded that God is the true treasure, His blessings are just a benefit of His LOVE!!

Tomorrow we will help to repair/build a road about 5 minutes from where we're staying. We're working with the community to see change!
Pray for safety, good attitudes and God-appointed connections!

We had a great week at the YWAM Caribbean conference- challenged in lots of ways. Praying for fresh ideas and new foundations to be set in our ministry and lives. Please pray that God's Spirit would move us towards the direction He wants us to go.

The DTS and Kathy arrived at our last destination this evening. We'll be spending the next week here- already blessed by the family we're serving. Pray that our time here will be led by God!!
